The Columbus Dispatch has done a superb job establishing the fact that most Columbus citizens believe that the Columbus Symphony Orchestra is needed as an essential fine arts establishment in our community.
But what now? So we have come to the conclusion that the CSO should stay. But what is the next step in helping our musician friends?

Support the CSO through concert attendance!! One of the reasons cited for cutting back the orchestra is "declining revenue from ticket sales." Everyone should come out to the concerts because it is the best way to "donate" money--you get to listen to a concert for the cost of a ticket. It also supports the musicians in an extraordinary way!!
Student tickets are pretty cheap too
With student ticket prices so low, it is a no brainer to attend. If prices were that low for everyone all the time, I believe attendance would be significantly higher.
I do believe that state funding for the arts should continue as it has throughout history. How many of the great masterpieces of art and music were created by composers supported by kings and governments?
The civic leaders and citizens of Columbus have a great opportunity to step up and keep the image of Symphonic art strong in the community! Concert attendance and financial support are key elements in helping the situation.
I wonder what kind of fund raising effort the management of the CSO has been undertaking during the past few years. I find it hard to believe that this city, the capital of the state, that found the ways to support so many other performance associations can let its Symphony Orchestra ---- now easily comparable to some of the best orchestras in the country --- sink.
