I was disappointed to find that, after donating a substantial sum of money to the symphony on their website, I did not receive even an auto-reply email with thanks. After two weeks, a receipt for the donation arrived at my mailbox; merely an accountant's form to be used for next year's taxes. Personally, I don't really care, but if the symphony depends on repeat supporters for its continued subsistence, and if donors largely like to be made feel like their gift was appreciated (or even noticed!), I think the Symphony's administration might want to think twice about alienating those who act generously toward it.
